Stop School Shaming

We all know the kinds of stories this refers to – where a disgruntled pupil and/or their parent has gone to the media about something a school has done that they’re unhappy about.

No one disputes that schools can make mistakes, or that disagreements will happen between home and school. However, other than in the most serious of whistleblowing cases, we are of the view that issues are best resolved privately, and that school shaming is unnecessary and counter-productive.

It’s simply not acceptable. It might generate clicks and revenue for the media, but the damage done to school communities continues long after the media’s attention has moved on.

If you see a school-shaming story in the media, please log it in the form below. We hope that it will help us build a picture of the kind of things happening, and better deal with it in future.
